Amanda Johnson studied art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago before traveling to Key West in 2011 on an inspirational journey, where she discovered the rich brilliance and luminosity of the tropical sun enlivening her use of colors and inspired her turn toward impressionism and plein air painting. Amanda established a studio and gallery in old town Key West, where she continued painting subjects ranging from flora and fauna to the resident island roosters, all of which reflect her style of impressionism, using palette knife and heavy brushwork.
The combination of exacting detail, lush texture and passionate movement is a distinguishing characteristic in Amanda’s oil paintings, invoking a feeling of subtle intrigue and powerful presence.
